Week 7: A Spirited Summer Send-Off

Time flies when you’re having fun! The seventh and final week of Summer Adventure Camp was a spirit-themed send-off filled with heartfelt exchanges and lively group activities. Campers celebrated friendships new and old while making crafts, preparing s’mores using solar power, and playing every trivia game under the sun (literally!). While summer eventually comes to an end, the memories made will stay with campers and staff for years to come.

The s’more the merrier! Kids at LifeMoves | First Step for Families could barely contain their excitement waiting for their chocolate to melt in the midday sun. The smell of gooey chocolate and marshmallows filled the air, but campers resisted the urge to dig in before the experiment and study in solar power was complete. They played board games in between bites, and, on their last day, they took a trip to a neighborhood park for some much-needed time on the playground.

Campers at our Redwood City Safe Parking site took extra precautions amidst the summer heat, turning themselves into sunscreen zombies! They let their imagination run wild, later using toothpicks and marshmallows to bring their most creative ideas to life. Some of the campers may have snuck a marshmallow snack or two before the long-awaited afternoon activity – an ultimate water balloon challenge. Laughter erupted as participants jumped, dove, and dodged their way past each balloon.

Camp staff at our Motel Voucher Program wanted to make a big splash for their final session and treated the kiddos to a week of outdoor activities, including a trip to the pool! Kids hopped and hurried across the yard to win first in a sack race and somehow had enough energy to take turns hitting a piñata with all their might. They made their own bouncy balls using special kits, and when they needed a (physical) break, they came together for rousing rounds of the Headbandz guessing game.

Did you know that a fort can be made from stone, pillows, and even cardboard? Campers channeled their inner architects to build their own forts and structures inspired by the video game Minecraft, transporting themselves into another world while navigating their cardboard kingdoms. And, for a super summer finale, all enjoyed a celebration complete with costumes, games, and an award ceremony (each camper received a special certificate). By the end of the week, campers and staff shared enough inside jokes to laugh and last a lifetime.

After a year like no other, we were overjoyed to welcome campers and see them immerse themselves in each week’s activities. They greeted every day with even more enthusiasm than the one before it and brought the infectious joy and positivity that fuels our work, our spirits, and our Summer Adventure Camp program.

We deeply appreciate our generous community, whose contributions helped create unforgettable camp experiences and lasting summertime memories.
