Week 6: Who Lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea?... LifeMoves Campers!

Campers dove headfirst into the “Under the Sea”-themed sixth week of Summer Adventure Camp! They had a swimmingly good time drawing sea creatures, learning about marine life, and exploring nature with the help of a special guide. Whether they were in the water themselves or learning about marine life on land, our campers were not afraid to take the plunge straight into their aquatic adventure.

Kids in our Motel Voucher Program got crafty with their deep-sea research, painting vibrant seascapes and making colorful ocean critters out of beads. Their finished creations were even fused together with the help of an iron and animal-shaped peg board – coming together to form a one-of-a-kind design that Davy Jones himself would treasure.

What is summer camp without a daytime viewing party? Campers at LifeMoves | First Step For Families enjoyed their own screening of the newly-released Disney film, Luca (the tale of a young boy (and sea creature) discovering life on land). Kiddos laughed, snacked, and shared their thoughts with friends and summer camp staff. Over the weeks, campers also have checked in on their garden projects, nourishing their seedlings and ensuring that the plants are having just as much fun in the sun! They tend to each plant with plenty of water and direct light and can’t wait to see them grow even higher.

In their continuous pursuit to learn more about our animal friends, campers at Redwood City Safe Parking got to know fish, dolphins, turtles, and more by making their own out of construction paper and markers. The jellyfish (or sea jelly) was a popular choice; kids particularly enjoyed bringing them to life on paper without the risk of a sting! Then, camp staff and local naturalists led campers on a wondrous hike through Wunderlich Park in Woodside. While on the trail, they ran into Lightning, a miniature horse who ended up being the best wilderness leader they could have asked for!

Soon-to-be marine biologists, our campers had an exciting week filled with underwater exploration, on-land laughter, and sun-soaked memories. They learned so much about what lives under the sea, but (just like the ocean) there will always be more to explore... The kiddos are as excited as ever to ride the waves into their final week of LifeMoves Summer Adventure Camp – you won’t want to miss it!
